Spotlight & Review - A Blood Moon

Hiding his private life in the public eye, vampire Alexander Macedo, goes to hell and back in a race against time to save the one woman he would die again for and the other he could spend an eternity with. A rogue vampire threatens the balance of power. Bred for strategy but torn between his want for love and his need for companionship, Alex battles to save all he holds dear.

1. With so many Vampire novels around these days, did you have a difficult time coming up with something a bit more unique?
Not really. Alex accepted the job of being the leading man everything else fell into place and my imagination (voices in my head) ran wild. The story just unraveled. I felt more like I was taking dictation.

2. With a wide variety in the personalities of the characters, did you lean to having a favorite?
I love Alex’s versatility and love the fact that although he has all this power, he has an element of humility. In Jack I love the fact that she’ll attempt anything but her confidence comes with time. Then there’s Lina… Who wouldn’t love this bad girl. Plus her clothes are to die for… literally. Who hasn’t tried to squeeze into a sexy number. Can’t you imagine that red dress screaming as she put it on plus draining blood itself to maintain its glamorous colour?

I just love the fact that the characters don’t have the stereotypical personalities.

3. There are quite a few cool elements in this book (i.e. were-demon, and demon, vampire, demon bride love triangle ) how did you come up with these elements to shock us readers?
Well according to the Bible a demon is the mixed child of an angel. So I started thinking about mixing it up a little with the characters.

The demon bride love triangle scenario actually was a Tanya Huff concept that I saw played out in the television series Blood Ties. I liked the concept so I borrowed some of it and gave it my own twist so that it fit nicely into Jack’s story.

4. Describe your writing area, to us readers & do you use any motivational tools while writing (i.e. music, quotes, special spots)
I’m a bit of a geek so my desk has several flat panels so that I can flip between computers. I have a couple of chairs at my desk which is pretty important as I have two dogs that both want to sit in the same chair I’m in. So in order to get any writing done, the Pug and I sit in my Captain’s chair and the Pit sits in her own computer chair.

I do use motivational tools. When I’m writing a love scene I have a tendency to listen to country music. They sure know how to give some good lovin’. For an action scene perhaps some techno, but salsa takes the cake when writing about control.

I may also go outside and experience nature. Have you ever tried lying on the patio tiles facing the sky just as it’s about to rain or in good weather. Once you get over feeling a little weird it’s a completely different feeling than sitting in the chair.

If you’ve spoken to anyone who has ridden a motorcycle or wonder why all cyclists seem to gather under the bridge when the rain falls, it’s because the raindrops slice at the cyclists like knives. I can then equate riding through a rainstorm to flying through one? People are the best motivation. So much knowledge can often be gained through conversation.

Have you ever stood at the edge of a cliff when the wind is blowing. I think that is about as close to flying as I’ll ever get; aside from jumping out of an airplane (with a parachute of course).

5. Can you share with us what to look out for next from you?
I have two releases during the first half of this year. The first being “Marked” that is targeted for release March 2011. The second is actually #2 in the Macedo Ink series “As Blood Rages” targeted for June 2011. I’m very excited about both of them.

My Review: I enjoyed this book immediately it was a fast read for me I read it from start to finish in one night. I loved all the different elements of how the story and characters mixed and mingled with each other and how the characters has a bit of a extreme mix of there own as backgrounds.
Cleverly written and executed, a book to recommend for a different vampire storyline.

Below is the blurb for “Marked” targeted for March 2011:
Great legends tell of the pairing of souls.
Two that would come together in an eternal bond yielding great power.
Forever marked with a destiny waiting to unfold
The wielders of light in darkness' final hour
Demonic forces threaten to tip the balance of power for all worlds. Xan, King of the Cats, is one of many called in by the Templar organization to eliminate the source of the trouble brewing in North America. Arriving in New York, Xan, a powerhouse of seduction, meets Katherine and begins to wonder whether he has met his soul mate or fallen into a trap. The war with the underworld comes topside and Xan is in the midst of fighting an unfamiliar battle - rejection. Can Katherine accept their differences?
