Our Second guest for Love Week
Chloe Neill
Today, I get the pleasure of welcoming Chloe Neill, one of my all time favorite writers! Thank you so much for
agreeing to stop in for a bit.
You're very welcome! Thanks for having me!
1.) What inspiration or first lead you to decide to start writing?
I went through a phase in which I read LOTS of books, all in series. I eventually got to the point where I couldn't find
anything else to read, and I really wanted to read about a female vampire. Thus, SOME GIRLS BITE was born!
2.) What was the first book written by you (published or non) and what was it about?
My first book (SGB was second) was the first in what would have been a chick-lit-ish paranormal romance series. I sent
it to one publisher, got one rejection, and put it in a drawer. I then started writing SOME GIRLS BITE.
3.)What did you find to be the hardest part of getting your books published?
The waiting was pretty hard, as well as trying to edit and re-edit to ensure the manuscript was good enough to send
out. I was very fortunate, though, that the first publisher to whom I sent SGB enjoyed it.
4.)Are you enjoying writing the Chicagoland Vampire or Novels of the Dark Elite series the best and why?
I love them both! They both have their own unique qualities. The CV novels are very political and kind of brainy, but
the DE novels have more of a puzzle-solving mystery element to them. And Jason. And he's adorable. :)
5.) I know everyone is just as excited about Twice Bitten and Hexbound coming out, will there be others in the series
or something else we can keep an eye out for?
There are currently four CV books under contract, and three DE books under contract. I have another manuscript in
process, but it's going quite slowly given my current publication schedule.
6.) Out of all of your characters are any of them based off of you or others you know personalities? How?
None of my characters (past, present or future) are based on people that I know. I will occasionally hear a phrase that
I like, but that's the only thing I put in novels of my "non-writing" life. Mostly, I like to get to know my characters on
their own, without the baggage of my ordinary life.
7.)You have three very popular books out at the moment, what is your favorite part of reading the reviews, all the
cheers and thumbs up or the bad reviews and what they have to say?
I love to hear when someone who read one of my books got to get away from their responsibilities for a little while.
Bad reviews that are based on a reader's notions of what the book *should* have been can be a little hard on the
heart.
8.) I know Twice Bitten comes out July 6th 2010 (everyone go by a copy) Do you do anything special for release
dates?
I usually have LOTS of small contests (for signed books, etc.) as well as one BIG contest (for a big Amazon gift card
or the like). Bitten By Books will probably be hosting that one on July 6, 2010.
9.)Do you use motivational tools when you write (i.e. music, photos, quotes,) that keep you in the right mindset or to
help during complicated times?
I have all of those things! I use the program EVERNOTE to keep folders of images, quotes, research, etc., for each
book. I also have playlists in iTunes for my writing. You can see a current playlist on my web site:
10.) Anything you would like to add?
Um, I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day (full of love and joy, whether you're single or not), and that readers
have a chance to check out my Dark Elite and Chicagoland Vampires novels! And thanks for having me!
The wonderful Chloe, has agreed to giveaway a signed copy of Firespell for one lucky winner.
This book will be US and Canada only.
Winner will be announced on February 20th.
